 Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) was captain of the infamous pirate ship The Black Pearl, until his crew left him stranded to die on a 'God-forsaken island.' His one-time first mate Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) now captains The Black Pearl and leads the mutinous crew. Jack arrives in Port Royal, in the hope of commandeering one of the Navy's ships. However, after risking his life to save the governor's daughter Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) from drowning he is thrown into jail.

That night The Black Pearl attacks Port Royal, and Elizabeth is kidnapped and taken away on the ship. Elizabeth's childhood friend and secret love Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), a blacksmith who has been separated from his mother and doesn't know who his father is, cannot bear to see the woman he loves taken away. He defies head of Navy Commodore Norrington (Jack Davenport) and Elizabeth's father Governor Swann (Jonathan Pryce) by setting out on his own mission to rescue Elizabeth. However, Will doesn't know much about ships or rescue missions and so joins forces with Jack to save Elizabeth and recapture Jack's beloved Black Pearl.
